Review: Zoeva Eye Brushes

Review: Zoeva Eye Brushes - Dusty Foxes Beauty Blog
This is the Eye Brushes edition of the Zoeva Brushes I have. The Face brushes are here and the haul is here.

For a review of the handles, I mentioned them (well, dedicated a paragraph to them) on the Face brush edition.

Before we start, I feel like I am obligated to mention I am a make up brush addict and half of my collection is dedicated to eye brushes. So it takes a lot to impress me for eye brushes. Now that's out of the way, let's get started!

First brush on the list and first one I tried is the 221 Luxe Soft Crease (natural synthetic hair mix). Tagline "it's all in the details". This brush is great for blending work. It's a nice size and the fluffy shape means the colour is sheered out nicely. It's not great for applying colour though, so I tend to use this solely for blending once the colour is on.

This is the 222 Luxe All Over Shader brush (Natural synthetic hair mix). Tagline "Shady Lady". This brush has the fluffy paddle shape I love, but at the same time it's a bit too big for my eye. I have small eyelids, so I prefer a smaller one. However, this is great when I want to put a colour all over the lid (like the name says), but I do need to be a bit more careful (I use just the very tip). The fluffy shape is also good for blending as you apply, but if you have smaller eyes and are a bit more heavy handed, I would recommend to give this one a miss.

This is the 223 Petit Eye Blender Brush (Taklon bristles). Tagline "set a course". This is a small dense brush that is meant to be used for pinpoint crease work, but I seem to use this more like a pencil brush. It's a really nice small size that works really nicely.

This is the 226 Smudger brush (Synthetic bristles). Tagline "the mystery girl". The website says this is for cat eyes and smoky eyes. I like this brush to smudge colour onto my bottom lashline or smudge eyeliner on my upper lashline. A really nice brush for that, but not really necessary if you're like me and tend to simpler (non-smoky) eyeshadow. Also, colour on my bottom lashline tends to make me look tired so to be honest, this brush isn't very used. However, if you're always doing smoky eyes and need a brush to smudge things out with some detail, I would recommend this.

This is the 227 Soft Definer Brush (goat bristles). Tagline "define your soft side". This is probably the do-it-all brush for me. You can do a full eye look (a basic one anyway) with just the one brush. The slightly squared shape applies colour well and the fluffiness blends it out. I really enjoy using this brush and to be honest, I use it almost every time I do my makeup. I am actually thinking of purchasing duplicates because I'm really lazy when it comes to cleaning brushes. I'm thinking I may get the Vegan version of this to see how it compares. But that seems more appropriate for cream products (natural hair picks up pigment more easily) so I may just get another of the goat hair ones. I think you can probably tell this is one of my favourites, but considering they made a vegan version of the brush, I think it must be pretty popular! I believe people have said this is a dupe for the 217 by MAC but I'm not 100% sure as I don't own the 217.

This is the 228 Crease Brush (goat hair). Tagline "the art of softness". This is a classic kind of crease brush with a generally tapered shape. It's classic for a reason. This brush is great for blending eyeshadow into the crease and for transition colours. As I have an "asian eye" with no defined crease, I use this for transitional colours.

This is the 230 Luxe Pencil Brush (pony bristles). Tagline "hot spot". This lovely, soft and small brush is great for really detailed work. It 's soft enough not to be scratchy which is good for the delicate eye area, but stiff enough to be precise. I use this brush to place colour in the inner corner, under the eye, in the outer V corner thing, anything precise.

This is the 231 Luxe Petit Crease (goat bristles). Tagline "fall in love with your eyes". This brush. Oh Em Gee this brush. I think that about sums up my feelings for this brush (totally not showing my favourite brush here...) This brush is unlike any other in my collection and I'm wondering why. The shape is so unique, it has the tapered shape that is reminiscent of a face brush but this is the most amazing crease brush ever. Well for me at least. The size and shape and stiffness and softness all work together to just blend shadow as a transition, or to do detailed shadow for a smoky eye or to run along the upper or lower lashes. I need like 3 more of these. If this brush could apply shadow all over the lid, it would be perfect. I don't tend to do very detailed eye looks day to day, but this is one of my most used brushes just to add depth. If you have smaller eyes or like to do quite defined eye looks but find pencil brushes too small/ too stiff for blending, I highly recommend this.

Here we have the 233 Cream Shader Brush (taklon bristles). Tagline "that fire in your eyes...". To be honest, this was a bit of a meh brush for me. I tend to use cream eyeshadows with my fingers because I prefer the finish with that. I tried this with both cream and powder products and it works, but it just... didn't do it for me. I mean it works, but I don't think it's a must have and rarely use it. When I do, it's usually to apply concealer just on my brow bone when I want a really defined brow, but overall, it's just a bit useless in my collection (though that's not to say it won't be someone else's favourite).

This is the 234 Luxe Smoky Shader Brush (goat bristles). Tagline "step-by-step smoky". Remember up above when I said the Luxe All Over Shader was too big for my small eyes? This is a smaller, less fluffy version of that and personally, I prefer this brush as it suits my needs better. That being said, this is a bit small for all over. I think this is great for more detailed smoky eye work if you have big eyes, and if you have smaller ones, this would be a good all over shader. I can use this to put colour on the outer 3rd of my lid, then I blend it with the Crease brush for a quick smoky eye.

Look how tiny this 237 Detail Shader brush (goat hair) is! It is literally the size of a bobby pin head. This isn't even the smallest brush! Tagline "sophisticated shade". This brush is tiny. That is all. When I first saw this I had no idea what it was for, but the site says it's designed for inner corner highlighting so that's how I've been using it. It's small and soft so it's good for that, but I don't think this is a must have. It's still so cute though!

The one brush smaller (in my collection) is the 312 Detail Liner brush (nylon bristles) Tagline "walk away like a movie star". Let me be honest here, I don't use this for liner. It's too small for my tastes and I seem to end up with mistakes. One for those with more steady hands! BUT I use this to fill in my brows. Being so small, it draws really small hair-like lines when I'm doing my brows. The brush head is like one line of bristles so it's really delicate and I feel like it's just great for that. You could use this for eyeliner as well, but I just make too many mistakes when I try!

Here is the 317 Wing Liner Brush (nylon bristles). Tagline "Soul Queen". This is a very fine brush. Like the one above, it is almost like it's a single line of bristles. This brush, again seems to me to be for those who are more steady with their hands. I am not one of those people. Because it is so fine and soft, it means it's easier to make mistakes so I use this brush for my brows as well. I need to work on my liner...

As if using both liner brushes as brow brushes wasn't enough, this is the 322 Brow Brush (taklon bristles), Tagline "the brows have it". Before I got into makeup, I never cared about brows. Now thanks to a Miss Delevingne, all everyone (who is into makeup and beauty) seem to be doing the big bushy brows trend.  This brush is for those who want those really really really dark drawn on brows I think. It's thicker and denser and longer than what I usually use. This brush is what I go to when I want the perfected brows that I personally don't like that much.

Overall, the eye brushes from Zoeva did not disappoint. They are all very soft, clean well with no shedding and are really well made. Standouts are the Soft definer and the Luxe Petit Crease. The rest are all really nice as well and I would recommend.

Liebster Award!

I was nominated by April over at That Girl That Likes Makeup for the Liebster Award! Thank you so much!

Basically this is an award that is given to bloggers by bloggers to introduce people to new blogs.

The rules are:

  1. Link the person who nominated you
  2. Answer 11 Questions given
  3. Nominate 5-11 other bloggers with under 1000 followers
  4. Ask them 11 questions

Here are my answers to the questions April gave!

1.How long have you been blogging for?
I've been blogging since October this year! So that's just about 2 months...

2.Whats your favourite Holiday drink?
I would say it's the Black Forest Hot Chocolate from Costa Coffee, but at home I've been drinking peppermint tea.

3.What is your must have beauty product for travelling?
If I had to pick just one, it would probably be a tinted lip balm. But I would also take something for my eyebrows just because that would really help with photos. For the actual travel (on the plane etc), a good face wash and a rejuvenating eye cream.

4.What's your favourite season?
Definitely Autumn!

5.What do you like to do in your spare time (Other than blogging)?
Read blogs! Or watch tv series. I'm currently finishing season 9 of Supernatural.

6.Biggest Pet Peeve?
In the blogging/YouTube world, it's probably when someone is so obviously sponsored and they are clearly faking how much they "love" a product.

In real life, it's probably when people make personal comments when they don't really know you.

7.Favourite Food?
Either pizza or noodles. Don't make me pick one!

8.Red Wine or White Wine?
Depends on what I'm eating to be honest, but if I'm not, then it's White.

9.What Fragrance are you currently loving?
Hmm... I'm currently wearing Taylor Swift Wonderstruck, but I really want DKNY MYNY. I tried it at the airport once and I loved it!

10.Favourite quote?
Everyone is hot- Estee from Essie Button

11.What inspired your blog name?
Well, I had an email address I made ages and ages ago which was dustyfoxes so I decided to just make a blog from it!

So I now nominate

My questions for them are:
1. What is your favourite thing about blogging?
2. If you could have a lunch party with 5 other people, who would they be? (fictional characters and people who have died also allowed)
3. If there was one thing you would have liked to known before you started blogging, what would it have been?
4. Where do you write your blog posts?
5. Where would you go on holiday if you had a free trip?
6. What is your favourite comfort food?
7. If you had to pick a season to live in eternally, which would you pick?
8. What beauty-related step do you skip?
9. What is your favourite place to shop?
10. What is the hardest part about being a blogger?
11. Where do you find blogs to follow?

So there it is! Sorry for the late post today, I had a bit of trouble picking questions!

Let me know if you've ever been nominated for this award in the comments below and if you like, you can let me know your answers to the questions as well. Also, go check out all the lovely ladies linked in this post!

Christmas Gift ideas!- Mini Gift Guide

So I don't usually post mid-week, mainly because I know I won't be able to commit to it, but I just bought a few things which I really wanted to share for gift ideas!

First up is this Soap and Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Crayons set. It's £16 and available at Boots. This set contains 3 of the Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss sticks in Fuchsia-ristic, Bashful and Raplumzel (full size). I already owned Fushia-ristic and Bashful (so those where the ones opened and pictured above, but I really love the formula of these so I didn't mind getting backups (I was going to get one for Bashful anyway). Also, they came in the super cute tin. I think this would make a great gift for someone just getting into make up or for a glossy lip lover because these are reasonably pigmented, high shine, super comfortable to wear on the lips, and non-sticky! They're also really easy to apply. You basically get 1 shade free plus the tin.

I would say though, it's not really for someone who stays in a hot climate. These gloss sticks tend to melt, so if you're thinking about getting it for someone who has sunny hot days a lot, you may want to look at a different kit...

This is the Perfect 10 limited edition eyeshadow palette from Soap and Glory. It is also £16 and available at Boots. This is another neutral palette in a sea of neutral palettes but is one of my favourite offerings. It includes 10 pigmented and soft shades in a cardboard box with a little double ended brush. I'm not a fan of cardboard boxes, but it does make this palette extremely portable and light. The brush is useable, not brilliant, but at least it isn't a sponge tipped one. It also comes with a large mirror and the magnetic closure is quite strong so it's a good one for travelling.

The shades are:
Vanilla: matte cream -available in the What's Nude Lid Stuff quad.
Minky: Shimmery pink - available in the Off the Wallflowers Lid Stuff quad.
Pink T: Matte pink-available in the What's Nude Lid Stuff quad.
Aubersheen: Shimmery brown -available in the What's Nude Lid Stuff quad.
Gold Coast: Shimmery gold
Taupe Cat: Shimmery taupe
Sunset: Shimmery Bronze
Brownie: Shimmery Dark brown
Black Gold: Matte grey with very few gold flecks-available in the Smokey Dokey Lid Stuff quad
Smokin': Black with multicoloured glitter.-available in the Smokey Dokey Lid Stuff quad

I feel this palette is a good one because the colours are really pigmented and lovely, but also because this palette is very versatile. I feel that the shades can really be worn on their own or together, but my current favourite is to put Gold Coast all over the lid and blend out. It's not a Naked Palette but it's a nice one nonetheless.

I don't own it, but the L'oreal La Palette Nude in Rose is another one I've heard good things about if you want more pinky tones. That one is £14.99. but as of time of writing is out of stock online.

Sorry about lighting with this one, I just recieved it at 4 pm, and I wanted to get this post up as soon as possible. This was kind-of what spurred this post. It's the Caudelie Divine Indulgence set and contains a 50 g sample of the Divine scrub (worth about £7), a 25 ml sample of the Divine legs (worth about £5) and a full size (100 ml) Divine oil (worth £27). This set is available now for £13.50! That's a great bargain! As of now, it hasn't sold out yet, but it may well get sold out soon! I haven't tried this yet, but it smells like honey when I opened the box. It's definitely a more luxurious thing, so if you know anyone who wants to try the divine oil or if you want a little present to yourself, this is the one to get!

A quick mention to the Benefit Cheeky Sweet Spot, but I already reviewed that here. I still think it'll be a great gift though!

Wow that was a lot of swatching! After about 3 rows I started regretting the decision to swatch the whole palette but now I have all the photos I feel like it was worth it! Sorry about the lighting difference in the last picture by the way, hazard of using natural lighting.

I'm not going to go too in depth about each colour as it is pretty picture heavy already. Just FYI, the matte shades are a bit chalky, the whites/ greys were a bit less pigmented and some shades had fallout more than others. The best formulated in my opinion were the blues, purples and pinks. The rest were really nice as well.

I got this palette a long time ago when I was just getting into makeup and now I'm stuck in a bit of a neutral eyeshadow rut, so what I've been doing is adding a slight pop of colour using this palette and it really adds to a look.

The best thing about this palette though, it's under £10. The price does fluctuate and right now it is £6.99 and is now being sold as the LaRoc 120 Palette (probably renamed off the hype of the Lorac Palettes). Anyway, a lot of brands do large palettes like this, and from what research I did when I got this, most of the palettes are the same just with different branding stuck on (eg. Coastal Scents, BH cosmetics etc).

So anyway, if you're interested in a cheap and cheerful set that has lots of colours and is fun, this would probably fit your needs, the quality isn't the best, but you do get what you pay for and when you use brights as little as I do, it's just a fun piece and a bargain!
